Perhaps the second biggest party destination after Bangkok, the Phuket nightlife scene has become notorious for catering to tourists from all over the world looking to let loose, have fun and possibly meet girls or the love of their life.
Phuket is an island on the west coast of Thailand and has several attractions besides nightlife, including the stunning Phang Nga Bay and access to the Phi Phi Islands. The island is also full of stunning beaches, national parks, cultural experiences, and of course – nightlife!
Prices in Phuket are similar to Bangkok thanks to the massive influx of tourists. There’s something for everyone looking to party in Phuket, from chilled sky bars, lounges, dive bars, go-go bars and late-night clubs. We’ll cover all of these here in our ultimate guide to Phuket nightlife.
Where to Party in Phuket
Phuket is a large island (the largest in Thailand) so there are many different regions to stay. When most people refer to Phuket nightlife, they are talking about the west coast along Patong Beach. You can find parties in other areas of the island, but this is the main hotspot and we’re going to mainly focus on this area.
This area of Phuket is quite small and walkable, so finding out where to party isn’t that hard. There is of course the notoriously popular Bangla Road which is basically Phuket’s busy walking street. Along here you’ll find the largest concentration of bars and nightclubs anywhere in Phuket, and possibly even Thailand.
If you find yourself in Old Phuket Town further to the southeast of the island, don’t worry, there are still many nightlife options for you, a few of which we’ll discuss further down in this post.
Other than that you will find bars and clubs dotted all over the area, to the south, to the north and along the beach. If you’re looking for beach clubs you can find them all the way up and down the west coast of Phuket overlooking the Andaman Sea, most of which are within a 45 minute drive away.
Phuket Nightlife and Safety Tips
– Thailand is a notoriously safe country, for the most part you will be perfectly fine. However, beach towns known for their sex tourism can be unsafe late at night, so be aware at all times. If a group of Ladyboys approaches you, be wary that they may be trying to pickpocket you or steal your things. It helps to not be drunk as well.
– This is a no brainer but stay away from strangers selling you drugs, which are illegal in Thailand, and it could be a setup. Also stay away from promoters trying to get you into their clubs or “girl bars”
– Drinking is allowed on the street, so don’t be afraid to walk around the vibrant town and slam a few drinks before you head to the bars and clubs.
– STDs are a big problem here, so please practice safe sex when hooking up.
How Expensive is it to Party in Phuket
When it comes to the cost of going out in Phuket, it’s a bit similar to Bangkok when compared to some of the smaller beach towns such as Krabi. Because of rich tourists coming from Europe to party for only a weekend, they are able to spend more, so prices generally go up.
That isn’t to say you can’t party on a budget here, as long as you pre-drink (at 7-Eleven is our favourite) and stay away from Bangla Walking Street you will be fine. Lots of cheaper bars dot the town that are popular with expats and backpackers.
Here is a basic overview of what you can expect to pay to enjoy the Phuket nightlife scene:
Bottle of beer: 50-120 baht
Big beer: 90-150 baht
Bucket: 150-300 baht
Cocktail: 100-300 baht
